A Day at the Races

Whew, this week has been so busy! It's so relaxing to finally sit down and do a post for my zero followers. I know, I know. I'm persevering. I'll get there!
To be honest, I haven't been having the best week. I'm stressed out of my mind, and I'm just not feeling very happy or motivated in general. Nobody seems to want to order any cupcakes from me, even though they're freaking delicious and good looking. I hope this doesn't fall through.
Anyway, enough of my whining, here are some pictures of an outfit I put together:
Hat-Vintage, Shirt-thrifted, Skirt-refashioned, thrifted, Shoes-thrifted
I wish I had styled my hair nicely! It's straight and ugly because without the hat, I was dressed as Michele Bachmann, and I gave a speech as her at school. It was humorous.

Don't you love the hat? I picked it up for $2 at an Estate Sale! I was expecting much much more for a vintage hat in such nice condition, but wow! If anyone is reading, let me know if you've ever found a treasure for dirt cheap!
I apologize for the dramatics.
Though this week is sucking, I'm looking forward to the Halloween weekend! On Friday after dance class, Gryphon and I are going out for karaoke with a bunch of friends! Of course, being the crazy theatre geeks we are, we're all dressing up as "Classy Mother-uckers" (not my quote). I have a rediculous cowgirl type dress that I thrifted because it was just so awesome and realized afterwards that I would never wear it to school, and now I have the perfect opportunity. Gryphon is going to be my cowboy, and I shall be his cowgirl. Hopefully we'll have tons of pictures from that night, everyone else is going to be wearing their best vintage garb, because obviously classiness is a thing of the past.

50s Soda Shop Couple

I figured I'd start off this post with a cupcake, because who the hell doesn't like cupcakes? I did my first test bake/sample day for my cupcake business "Creme de la Cupcakes" and it was a total hit! I made a dozen of these delicious Cappuccino Cakes, and they sold like hotcakes. Success! They were amazing. It's a chocolate espresso cake with vanilla buttercream and espresso syrup. I'll probably do at least one test bake/sample day a month, but otherwise I'm just taking orders for entire batches. If you're ever in the central coast of California, look me up!

A great new diner called Wee Shack opened up a couple minutes away from the high school, so Gryphon and I decided to try it out during our free period. It was absolutely incredible, with probably the best burgers I have ever eaten! It had a total fifties feel too, and after we left with our milkshakes and leftovers, we realized that we had unconciously dressed the part:
Not our car, by the way, but we wish. Also, his jacket was thrifted, and is in excellent condition. We're always so lucky at the Goodwill!
Gryphon, by the way, is so awesome. He's my photographer, thrifting buddy, acting partner, project assistant, and fellow vintage music and culture enthusiast. In fact, this weekend he's going to spend many hours draping me in paper mache so I can finally have my own body mold for dresswork!
I figure I should share a little about him, as he's most likely going to be a regular feature on my blog, and I already mention him quite a bit. We've been together two years, met through acting, and he's been my best friend for a long time! It's very nice to have a personal photographer to take my blog photos for me, is all I'm saying.

It has been hot in an ungodly way this week, which is a major suck because I just bought a bunch of great winter items from an estate sale, and I can't wear them quite yet! My purchase includes a lovely pair of vintage riding/driving gloves that would only be acceptable in the bitter cold. I'm sad.

In future posts I'm probably going to be much fatter. Needless to say, we've become regulars at this new diner. In fact, we went twice the first day, and it's only getting better.

Halloween Plans and Heat

Oof, it's been while since I've been able to make it to the computer, I've been so busy!
While thrifting recently I found a really nice vintage leather jacket that I just love! It's tough, but at the same time, very feminine and pretty! It reminds me of high school girls wearing their boyfriend's jackets in the 50s.

Surprisingly, they have some pretty cute vintage inspired jewelry at Forever 21. I love this necklace, and it was 14 bucks!

Fast forward to the weekend: One of my closest friends, Laura, came back from college for the weekend to spend some time with all of her friends, and she met us for some good old fashion thrifting. I got a bunch of stuff at an estate sale, which I'll post about later, but while we were in a resale store, I found this awesome dress:
Apparently it's from Pinup Couture, so I'm lucky to have snagged it at a rediculously low price!
Laura decided that it would make a great Devil costume, so I had to get it, even though I'd probably never find an occasion to wear it again!
Spanx are on my shopping list fo-sho. I can't wait to show you guys the finished result!

This week was hellishly hot (ha!) so I finally got a chance to wear some adorable vintage shorts I found years ago in Hawaii.
Entire outfit-thrifted
I love these shorts. I lost a bunch of weight recently so they're a little big, but nothing a little taking in can't do! Sadly, I don't know when my next chance will be to wear them-it rarely gets above 65 in Los Osos. Today just happened to be in the 90s, randomly.
Heres some of the details on the shorts. I love the buttons on both sides!

In other news, I've started a cupcake business! If you're in the SLO area in California, place an order! Heres my facebook page.
I've been practicing my decorating skills, because I can make them delicious, but making them pretty takes extra practice! I'm very excited about it, I'll have pictures up when I start doing orders and bake tests!

Fall is a'comin'!

Ah, October. Finally, it really is Fall, and finally, the weather around here has become compliant. I love warm, rainy weather. It's probably my most favorite! I've been a little too busy to post for the last couple of days, but I'm sure my 0 readers won't complain. ;)
I've been seeing tons of adorable jewelry holders made out of manzanita branches all over the internet. They're all so beautiful! My room is full of wooden birds and trees are also a motif, and I've decided I need one for all my Great-grandmother's vintage jewelry. I'd rather show it off than keep it in the box it's in now! (Even though the boxes are gorgeous as well.)
Strangely, the walls in this room are exactly the same color as mine.
It just so happens that I live in an area that has manzanita bushes growing everywhere, so hopefully on an upcoming weekend Gryphon and I are going to go hiking and find the perfect branch for me!
Speaking of vintage jewelry, I decided this past week that I need to showcase some of my less worn pieces, so heres a simple outfit with a gorgeous vintage gold necklace.
Necklace-vintage, Blouse-Kohls, Cardigan-thrifted, Jeans-Levi, Shoes-Target
Sorry for the bellybutton action guys. I know none of you want to see that. Heres another shot that shows off the necklace a bit better!

I love it! Sadly, I'm slightly allergic to most metals, so wearing this too long gave me a rash on my neck. It probably won't stop me from wearing it though. Giving up jewelry would make me cry.

Over the weekend I had a chance to tighten the buttonholes on that lovely vintage dress I thrifted a while back. For those who haven't seen it, it's been posted before, worn by my lovely friend Wren:

Sadly, I think it looks better on her smaller frame (I've never been a fan of baby-doll dresses) but I'm very happy that I can wear it now and not worry about the buttons popping open over my chestile region every few seconds! I had Wren take some (somewhat dramatic) photos of me wearing it today after school:

Yes, I rocked a single victory roll today. I was in a bit of a hurry in the morning. Sadly, I still have a lot of trouble doing a bun, even though my hair is much shorter now. Bobby pins do not seem to want to stay.
