Family tree

I'd like to formally introduce some members of the family:
This is my great-great grandmother. I do not remember her name, but it is written down somewhere.
My great-great-great aunt. She looks like a Grecian painting.
My hot-ass great-grandmother Shirley. This was taken when she was about 16 years old. Seriously. Also, she's the one I got all of my vintage jewelry from.
This is my great grand-cousin, Beverly King. She is also the only one of my deceased family members who I share a facial shape with. Not all of us can have little round cheeks and button noses.
A great-great aunt. She was Shirley's father's sister. Yes, confusing. But don't you love the beading on her shirt? I wish I had all of their clothing.
Another one of my hot-ass great-grandmother. I mean, seriously? This is her Senior Portrait. As in high-school. In my Senior Portrait I look like a goober.
My great-great aunt Sade. This is probably my favorite picture of the bunch my Grandmother gave me. She actually had the negative for this one, so I got a huge 8x11 printed to hang on my wall. She is beautiful, isn't she? I wish I could have inherited her face. Women just don't look like this anymore, for some reason. This was taken in the 1920s, by the way.

Ah, aren't you jealous that you didn't inherit their genes like I did? Yeah, I know. I just wish I also inherited their clothing. At least I got the jewelry.
Anyway, back to our century! Kind of. My friend Wren was over at my house today, and she needed help getting ready to go to an "Old Hollywood" high-school dance. I lent her a little black dress and one of my hot-ass great-grandmother's necklaces, did her make-up, and she looks just the part!

Well, I guess Wren pretty much looks like she comes out of the 1950s. Damn my super-tan skin.

My "I feel pretty" dress.

So, Gryphon broke up with me.
Yes, I am devestated at the end of this two year, loving relationship and the loss of my best friend, but this blog isn't really about me. It's about the clothes I wear.
Christmas was only two days after it happened, and though I was miserable, I recieved a beautiful dress from my mother. The first piece of clothing I've recieved as a newly single gal.

Oh, also, my haircut! I mentioned it in my last post. The breakup had happened at that point, but I didn't feel ready to announce it. It felt so final, saying it, or rather, typing it out.
So, the haircut. I love it. It's not even a real haircut, so to speak. In a rage of passion the day of the breakup, I had my friend Ashley just chop it all off. Surprisingly, it just turned out looking great, and I'm very happy with it.

I love this dress because it was the first thing to make me smile since it happened. Whenever I feel blue, I throw it on and feel like everyone is looking at me, and even though right now only one pair of eyes matter, it still feels really good to know that people think you're beautiful.

It's important to take care of yourself when going through a hard part of life. The last thing I feel like doing after rolling out of bed in the morning is slapping on some lipstick and breaking in new heels. I'd rather cry and eat frosting. But feeling pretty is something other than feeling broken. It's important to feel even the smallest glimmers of happiness, because even when your miserable, the little snippets of happiness keep growing and growing until you don't remember what you were even miserable about in the first place.

I'm looking forward to feeling like that. Dressing up is the first step.

I got me some Granny-Pants

Pants-Vintage, Shirt-Forever21, Shoes-Target
And I'm so happy about that.
They really are grandmother pants, by the way. They belonged to Gryphon's grandmother, and when we cleaned out her house when she went to a home, we found that they fit me and I was allowed to take them home. I really really love them. I felt like I was from the seventies when I was walking to Gryphon's house; it was a really hot day and I decided to take my shoes off. I got several strange looks from passerbys.

We were having a very creative day, I do admit.
I have not been posting very much as of late, and for that I apologize! We just got done with the play I assistant directed, plus choir and finals. I took the first week of Winter Break as me time, and I didn't touch my camera the entire time, of which I am ashamed. I actually took these pictures a while ago and they have been sitting around on my computer, and today I am bored so what the heck.
I got my hair cut very short! It's very 50s, and I will definitely show everyone next time I decide to venture out into the world! Today though, I will stay in pajamas.
I told him not to shave his sideburns because they belonged in the 70s.
Happy New Years everyone!

A Day at the Races

Whew, this week has been so busy! It's so relaxing to finally sit down and do a post for my zero followers. I know, I know. I'm persevering. I'll get there!
To be honest, I haven't been having the best week. I'm stressed out of my mind, and I'm just not feeling very happy or motivated in general. Nobody seems to want to order any cupcakes from me, even though they're freaking delicious and good looking. I hope this doesn't fall through.
Anyway, enough of my whining, here are some pictures of an outfit I put together:
Hat-Vintage, Shirt-thrifted, Skirt-refashioned, thrifted, Shoes-thrifted
I wish I had styled my hair nicely! It's straight and ugly because without the hat, I was dressed as Michele Bachmann, and I gave a speech as her at school. It was humorous.

Don't you love the hat? I picked it up for $2 at an Estate Sale! I was expecting much much more for a vintage hat in such nice condition, but wow! If anyone is reading, let me know if you've ever found a treasure for dirt cheap!
I apologize for the dramatics.
Though this week is sucking, I'm looking forward to the Halloween weekend! On Friday after dance class, Gryphon and I are going out for karaoke with a bunch of friends! Of course, being the crazy theatre geeks we are, we're all dressing up as "Classy Mother-uckers" (not my quote). I have a rediculous cowgirl type dress that I thrifted because it was just so awesome and realized afterwards that I would never wear it to school, and now I have the perfect opportunity. Gryphon is going to be my cowboy, and I shall be his cowgirl. Hopefully we'll have tons of pictures from that night, everyone else is going to be wearing their best vintage garb, because obviously classiness is a thing of the past.
